Plan today is to do a walk (The 606) and then go into town on train, but it might be affected by rain as the forecast is not great. Weather here is generally quite warm, 13-15C, but cold at night and would no doubt be colder but no wind off Lake Michigan at the moment. No green shoots on trees at all here yet, so way behind the UK in Spring-ness.
We were out of the house at 7.50 this morning to walk along the 606 near here, a disused railway converted into a walk/cycle/jogging path. Pleasant walk, got off at Western and found subway, the L, and got a train to City centre. Found the Corner Café and had breakfast which was good – got a 10% reduction because she thought I’d said I was a Police Officer, which was amusing (presumably she heard me say something like “can I please have some cutlery polease" or something. Had a wander around heading down towards the Lake, took some photos of high buildings including Trump Tower, then made our way to cinema as it began to rain. Watched “Best of Enemies” at 1.15. Very good film about race and segregation in N Carolina in 1960s. Got train home, discovered that we’d walked 6.2 miles today, which is good. Looked for and then booked an Airbnb in Quincy IL for Monday night. Looks good, and only 5 hours drive. We have to pick up car in morning. Played one game of crib, and won in a canter for a change, 1-2 now.
Torrential rain for about half an hour, with storm, as we rested up at N Kedzie apartment. When it stopped we returned to El Cid for a meal and a beer. Ate a delicious Burrito, about to leave when they brought us a beer on the house, which was great. We were last out at around 9.30. Got ‘home’ and listened to lots of old music from 60s which Mick found on Spotify – started with Brenda Lee and Helen Shapiro. Managed to hold out till 10.15 and then crashed out.
