Equation of a circle

C2

Back in Year 5 or 6 or 7, you learned that the area of a triangle was half of the base x the height. However, what if you don't know the height? What if you know the lengths of sides but there are no right angles?

How long is a piece of string?

You've also worked out the equations of straight lines, but what's the equation of a circle?

Later in the course, in C4 we will be looking at proving that the tangent to a circle is always perpendicular to the radius by using Calculus
