San Antonio to El Paso - 541 miles
Early start around 8.15 after a very brief stint in the gym. Long drive but we did it in 8.5 hours due mainly to saving an hour with time zone change. At one time I drove 77 miles in an hour, so straight were the roads and so easy was the driving. Possibly the most remote place we’ve driven, lots of trucks on road, fewer cars. Green and flowery, (bluebonnets and reds and yellow flowers too) changed to arid scrub and mountainous wasteland. Had great Mexican lunch at Fort Stockton near Los Tros Amigos cafe, but in the one next door!
As we got bags out of car my handle on case broke, ripped off, so now it’s quite difficult to handle or lift. That’s a bummer as it was the best black case, large one, have had it a long time! Hotel just off freeway, pleasant, near town, found a bar with lots of good beers, young guy running it very friendly, got quite pissed as he fed us beer and chatted. Told us Trump is a knob and has little support here. Bar was called Crafts and Social. Beer was very strong!
